About
PORTAL invites you to enter ever more deeply into the landscape of Lenapehoking, and reminds you how close and otherworldly that landscape can be. A high arch made out of locally-harvested Phragmites reed, built using traditional European thatching techniques, connects two benches and creates a passage that leads to the river and wetlands on the other side of the trees.
Visit
From the parking lot at Gateway Park, look towards the treeline that runs along the Cooper River. You’ll find the sculpture located along the treeline.
Accessibility info
The artwork is visible from the paved trail, but can only be accessed by going over unpaved ground (grass). The trail between the artwork and the river is unpaved, and can get wet / muddy at high tide and during periods of high rain.
