Join environmental artist Sarah Kavage and designer Yaroub Al-Obaidi in constructing an Iraqi guest house, called a mudhif, at the Schuylkill Center. Entirely constructed of non-native reed grass, this structure, found in Iraqi marshlands, has traditionally been used for town gatherings and ceremonies; at the Schuylkill Center it will serve as a gathering place to share experiences of war through storytelling, healing and recovery among veterans, Iraqi immigrant communities and the public. We're kicking off the building process of the art installation "Al-Mudhif - A Confluence" on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, with a dedication ceremony, involving a blessing by Chaplain Christopher Antal (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs), Land Acknowledgement by the Lenni-Lenape Nation, and a sharing by Yaroub Al-Obaidi.
