Aqua Marooned! is a new card game that premiered in Fall 2021 across the Delaware River Watershed, commissioned by the Alliance for Watershed Education of the Delaware River (AWE). The game is part of the region-wide art initiative Lenapehoking~Watershed and connects the three states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware through humor, wit, and nature exploration. Created by Philly-based immersive experience company Swim Pony and meant to be played outdoors, the game’s beautifully-illustrated cards cast players as extraterrestrial explorers sent to learn Earth’s mysterious “watersphere.” A super-sized Lenape expansion deck, created in collaboration with a circle of local Lenape advisors, gives players an opportunity to delve into the Indigenous perspectives. Using vibrant pictures of plants, animals, and the environment as well as a cast of playful alien characters, the game seeks to create a fun and engaging experience for players of all ages and experience levels. Opening Reception: Nature’s Long Memory at LEAP
Celebrate the exhibition and installation of Nature’s Long Memory at the LEAP STEM Puerto Rican Art Center at LEAP Academy! Nature’s Long Memory is a pop-up sculpture that is part of the Water Spirit series, designed and built by Sarah Kavage and the Camden Crew, a team of young Camden, NJ artists composed of Adriana Amador-Chacon, Priscilla Rios, and LEAP alumnus Breiner Garcia.
Nature’s Long Memory was designed as a mobile devotional structure to be installed at Watershed Alliance partner sites in and around New Jersey. Made of locally harvested Phragmites reed (an invasive, yet robust species of plant), the sculpture has been placed at various public spaces throughout Camden including Cramer Hill Nature Preserve, Pyne Poynt Park, Von Nieda Park, Bethel AME Church, and RCA Pier. With each installation a new design has been employed by the Camden Crew, including a series of prompts designed to engage those who encounter the work. The prompts asked participants to reflect on their role in nature and their own impact on their community. The LEAP installation will be its final stop, showcasing its many different forms and variety of interactions and scenarios it has generated in its travels.
The installation will include a variety of original artworks, informational presentations and programming engaging themes of nature, culture and how art can connect them all. By highlighting the larger Lenapehoking watershed in general and Nature’s Long Memory in particular, the exhibition offers LEAP students and visitors from the general public an opportunity to consider how, working symbiotically with each other and with nature, we can begin to make a better and collectively resilient future.
DIRECTIONS & ACCESS: LEAP is accessible from Philadelphia via the Patco train stopping at Lindenwold Station; in Camden via NJ Transit Busses 404, 405, 406, 407 and 451 and the Patco train stopping at City Hall. Parking is available on 6th and Cooper Streets.

The event is free to the public and will be bilingual in Spanish and English.
Las Artivistas is a growing art collective that creates a space for women to express their creativity, reflect on their identities, and creative pacifist revolution through art and activism, intuition and love, and solidarity, equity and justice. Their event will activate Liquid Landscape, the braided meadows installation created by Sarah Kavage and assistants (part of the Water Spirit sculpture series throughout the AWE network).

ARC Reed Boat Dedication and Float
Join artists Aymar Ccopacatty and Sarah Kavage as they float ARC, their reed boat, in the boat basin at the Independence Seaport Museum. The two have been working on the vessel in ISM’s maker space since September. The artists will host an informal conversation and Q&A about the boat's origins, inspiration, and construction.
ARC is a modern adaptation of a traditional Aymara reed boat, built with local materials including invasive Phragmites reed and scavenged plastic bottles. In doing so, it connects materials and methods across space and time — contemporary and traditional, near and far — to prompt discussion about the movement of plants and people across the globe, climate change, environmental degradation, climate migration, colonization, and solidarity between peoples across the Americas.
Access notes: The boat basin at the Seaport Museum is wheelchair accessible via a ramp from the sidewalk. For additional location, accessibility, and transportation information on ISM’s website, click here.

DYNAMO: re-generación en esperanza hacia el futuro (re-generation in hopes of the future) is a performance organized by artists José Ortiz-Pagán & Mauricio Pérez with the Philadelphia based collective La Calaca Flaca in collaboration with Camden-area youth groups. The event interacts with Portal, Sarah Kavage’s dramatic phragmites installation that creates a gateway to the Cooper river. Reclaiming the river as a symbol of passage but also confluence, the event will articulate four different individuals's hopes and plans for their lives in the context of migration; featuring sound by Bennett Kuhn; and a solo performance by Aztec dancer Ruben Chico.
A gathering with food by chef Juan Carlos Marin will follow the performance.
All programs will follow COVID-19 preventive protocols and measures.
