PEEC Residency Artists

Four Lenapehoking-area artists join Water Spirit Lead Artist Sarah Kavage at the Pocono Environmental Education Center during the week of August 9 — 14, 2021 to develop their own work, commune with the land, and be in conversation with each other.

Andrea David (top left, braids) who also goes by AyeBlouezz or Aye for short is a student of life and visual artist. She offers her services of photography, styling, leading various art workshops and hosting/curating art shows. Aye often works with a variety of business spaces and nonprofit organizations to assist in creativity, hospitality, spatial management, and administrative organization. She is currently working on the pursuit of creating an art brand that gives back to the community and supports her artist creations.

Raúl Romero (top right, glasses) is a Philadelphia based artist working in sound, sculpture, installation and performance.He earned a B.A. in Communication from the University of South Florida and an MFA in Sculpture from Yale University School of Art. He currently works at the University of the Arts as a Film Coordinator and Lecturer. Romero has been awarded grants from the Velocity Fund and the National Association of Latino Arts and Culture. He is a member of Vox Populi Gallery and has been a resident artist at RAIR, Recycling Artist in Residence program in Philadelphia.

Brenda Howell (bottom left, blue shirt) has explored her passion for color, texture and beauty through different materials and mediums.  Her desire is to produce beauty but not in the traditional sense.  Attracted to the quirky and overlooked she uses anything discarded yet lovely --rust, old books, burned wood, nails.... These unconventional materials are the basis for her encaustic paintings, sculptures and installations. She recently has begun exploring environmental art, assisting in sculpting large scale installations using meadow grasses, phragmites and grapevine. Brenda has a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and has taken coursework at Temple University, Tyler School of Art. Brenda lives and maintains a studio in Philadelphia, PA

Lauren Garrett (bottom right) embodies multiethnic bloodlines and is Federally enrolled in the United States with the Eastern Shoshone Tribe. She is a musician, writer, scholar, and multimedia visual artist. Lauren’s mission is to be of service to the community, to educate, and to learn; promoting empowerment and inquiry.
