Al Mudhif — an Iraqi ceremonial guesthouse entirely made out of invasive wetland reeds by artists Sarah Kavage and Yaroub Al-Obaidi (part of the Water Spirit project) — is the focal point and catalyst for this healing event on the 20-year anniversary of the trauma of 9/11 and subsequent American military actions in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Participants will be led on a walk with wildlife expert Elizabeth Ellman, enjoy Iraqi tea/coffee, and listen to sound recordings of veteran voices speaking about personal experience of trauma and healing with Chaplain Christopher Antal and artist Yaroub Al-Obaidi. Following will be a healing session and conversation led by Jack Saul, trauma psychologist and project director of the public arts project Moral Injuries of War.
Space is limited. Registration is required. Masks are recommended.
