Amber Art & Design
Artists-in-Residence, Water Spirit
Amber Art & Design is an artist collective that is dedicated to social engagement, historical research, and public art that represents the voices of a community. The Amber team cultivates spaces for positive growth by facilitating dynamic interactions between artists, communities, institutions, and movements. AA&D members Linda Fernandez and Keir Johnston are engaging with the sculptural benches created by Sarah Kavage and community members at the Cobbs Creek Environmental Center; working with high school students to create a showcase of art and spoken word focused on environmental justice.
Linda Fernandez is an artist, educator and advocate for community centered art in public spaces. Her work involves coordinating the creative exchange of messages, artwork and personal artifacts between people across physical, social and cultural divides. These collaborative works bring a diversity of voices, ideas and dreams to the table.
Keir Johnston has spent more than two decades elevating social issues that impact communities of Color through public art. He’s produced over 30 large scale murals working with diverse populations – including incarcerated youth, prisoners serving life sentences, elderly groups, elementary and high school students, and those with disabilities. Keir sees art as an integral component of public life.
